How to use Akuru

Installing Akuru

Installing on Windows
  1. Download Xiosis Akuru from the download page
  2. Double click the downloaded file to run the installer program
  3. Check if the Windows User Account Control dialog says that the verified publisher is "Xiosis Pvt. Ltd". This shows that the program is genuine and have not been tampered with. The appearance of the dialog may be different depending on your Windows version
  4. Click Yes on the User Account Control dialog
  5. Follow the instructions from the installer program to complete the installation
    1. Additional instructions for Windows XP
    2. Go to Control Panel
    3. Click Regional and Language Options
    4. In Supplemental Language Support, make sure Install files for Complex Script is ticked and enabled
    5. Click OK
    6. Note: Windows may ask for your Windows XP CD

Using Akuru

  1. Open or activate the program you want to use Akuru with
  2. Select Xiosis Akuru from the Windows Language Bar
  3. Start typing in your document
    • Akuru would pop up and show the suggestions
    • Press space to select a suggestion
    • Press and release CTRL key to move between suggestions
    • To select an alternate spelling suggestion, press the number of the suggestion

Using Akuru Pad

  1. Start Akuru Pad by selecting it from the Start menu: Start > Xiosis Akuru > Akuru Pad
  2. The Akuru Pad window is simple to follow
  3. If you prefer to type in Latin, you can write your document in Latin in the top box
  4. Click the Convert button in the toolbar and the converted Thaana appears in the bottom box
  5. If you prefer to directly type in Thaana you can do so in the bottom box
  6. To underline the spelling mistakes,click the Spell Check button
  7. To send the Thaana document to Microsoft Word, click the Paste to Word buton

Using Akuru Font Tool

    You would need administrator access to use Akuru Font Tool
  1. Start Akuru Font Tool by selecting it from the Start menu: Start > Xiosis Akuru > Akuru Font Tool
  2. The current font assigned by Microsoft Windows for Dhivehi is shown at the top
  3. Select a new font from the font list below
  4. Click Set New Default Font Button
  5. Click the Close Button
  6. Restart your computer to see the effect
  7. If you want to revert back to using the Windows default font, click Set MV Boli as Default button

Creating macros

  1. Restore the language bar. If the language bar is not restored, restore it by following the instructions below
      In Windows XP, Vista and 7
    1. Right click the language icon in the Taskbar
    2. Click Restore the Language Bar
      In Windows 8
    1. Right click the language icon in the Taskbar
    2. Click Change language preferences
    3. Click Advanced settings
    4. In Switching input methods, click Use desktop language bar when available and click options on the right side
    5. In language bar dialog, click Floating on Desktop
  2. Make sure Dhivehi / Xiosis Akuru is selected in the language bar
  3. Click Tools and click Define Macro to open the Macro Dialog Box
  4. Click New to define a macro
  5. Define the macro in the text box in the left and add the Dhivehi phrase to be suggested to the left
  6. Click Ok.
  7. Your macro is ready to use

Uninstalling Akuru

  1. Go to Control Panel ->Program (Add Remove Programs in XP)
  2. Select Xiosis Akuru from the list
  3. click Uninstall.

Note: Windows does not unload Xiosis Akuru from memory until the program using Akuru has been closed. To avoid having to restart your system after an uninstall, close all programs that you used Akuru with.
